Backpack Hero combines roguelike and logistics: the main character carries a backpack with him, and it is its contents that determine his strength. Items in the inventory take up space and, more importantly, stand in a certain way - next to something they strengthen, and next to something else they get in the way. So before the battle, the player is busy not only selecting things, but also putting them in the correct order. The battles are turn-based and reminiscent of a puzzle: each item has its own effects, and a successful combination turns a small set of things into a serious fighting machine. As you progress, new items are found, and old ones have to be thrown away - and each time this is a difficult decision, because everything depends on the assembly. In addition to battles, there is the development of the settlement: the resources found are used to improve the village, which gradually opens up new opportunities. Due to this, the races do not look the same, and progress is felt even after failure. Separately, it is worth noting that the game has many characters with different sets of items, and each race is completed in its own way. Village development works as a long-term goal worth coming back for. For fans of the genre, this is a rare mechanic: victory depends on how you know how to arrange things, and not on reflexes. The game requires perseverance and a love of optimization, but rewards ingenuity. For those who love roguelikes and don’t mind thinking about the layout of objects, the Backpack Hero will turn out to be a rare form of entertainment.
