Storyteller

Storyteller is an unusual puzzle game where the player does not solve problems, but creates stories. Characters are put on stage, events are placed between them, and it is necessary to make sure that a plot is created with a given outcome: for example, that the hero is saved or that he achieves his goal. The rules are simple, but the consequences are complicated. The characters react to what is happening according to their own logic: the jealous person will lose his temper if he sees his opponent, and the knight will rush to save the one in trouble. From these reactions the story is assembled, and the game evaluates how well the result coincides with the idea. There are dozens of episodes in the campaign, and with each one new elements and conditions are added. There is also a mode with additional tasks, where the same situation needs to be unfolded in the most unexpected way. It plays quickly: the episode takes a couple of minutes, but makes you think. It’s also worth noting that the campaign is long, but each task takes a couple of minutes, so it’s convenient to play during breaks. Solutions often come intuitively: first you try one option, see the result and adjust. The music is chosen to match the mood of the episodes, and the design remains laconic so as not to distract from the characters and events. Separately, it is worth noting that successful solutions are sometimes obtained by chance, and this is part of the charm: at first you place characters at random, then you understand the logic and begin to solve them as problems. The tips are minimal, but there is nothing to suggest here - all the rules are visible right on the stage. Pixel graphics and a minimum of text do their job: nothing distracts from the main thing. Storyteller is a rare example of a game where the main skill is not reaction, but imagination.
