Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is an action movie set in a universe where Captain Titus of the Ultramarines leads a squad of three fighters. Brother Leander and Sergeant Sidonius act with him. The opponents are orcs and the “Chosen of Nemeroth” gang. Help comes from the 203rd Regiment of the Imperial Guard, and later from other orders, the Blood Ravens and the Black Templars. Some missions are designed for single playthrough. The arsenal starts with a combat knife and a bolt pistol, and then opens up progressively heavier weapons. A filled rage gauge gives access to special techniques. The battles take place in close quarters and in open positions, where pressure is more important than cover. Melee combat is supported by finishing moves that restore health. There is cover, but the game encourages pressure. Weapons are marked for their intended purpose, and ammunition for them is limited. The plot progresses through large scenes where the squad operates in one formation. Orcs attack in droves, so weapons need a supply of shells. Fury accumulates from hits and unlocks powerful moves. Later chapters provide support for other orders and heavy armor. Battles take place both indoors and outdoors. Opponents are divided by type: from small to large fighters. Heavy weapons leave a supply of shells for a couple of fights. Armor varies among opponents, and this affects the choice of barrel. Orders provide different bonuses to equipment. The density of enemies increases towards the final chapters, and ammo has to be spent carefully. For those players who love dark fantasy and close combat, the game is suitable.
