The Medium

The Medium is a psychological horror film set in a large abandoned hotel. The building remembers a lot, and to understand its secrets, you need a medium: the main character is able to exist simultaneously in two worlds - the ordinary and the ghostly. This is not only a plot device, but also a mechanic. Some of the mysteries are solved only when looking from another world, and in some places the heroine acts in both at once: she walks in one, and clears the way in the other. Enemies are hit not by shooting, but by attention: most skirmishes come down to getting around or waiting out. The game is based on atmosphere: silence, dust, lantern light, sounds of footsteps and the constant feeling that there is someone behind you. The plot is told through notes, scenes and voices, and the tragedy associated with the hotel itself is gradually revealed. It is also worth noting that the hotel is presented as an independent character: it has a history, its own inhabitants and places where you don’t want to return. In addition, there are scenes where the heroine acts in both worlds at the same time, and both the puzzle and the atmosphere depend on this. There are a lot of notes, and they add up to a separate story about what happened here. The game is short by genre standards - can be completed in a few evenings. The music deserves special mention: it creates tension no worse than the visual part. There are few battles and puzzles in the usual sense, but there is plenty of tension. For those who like slow, scary stories with strong performances, this is a suitable option.
