Scars Above - an expedition to a mysterious metahedron ends not in discovery, but in disaster: Kate and her comrades are thrown out of the solar system, onto a planet where an alien advanced civilization once lived. Now she needs to assemble a team and find the way home, and at the same time understand what kind of artifact pulled the expedition out of the usual world. A scientist is not a soldier, and this is felt in battle. It is not so much accuracy that helps against aggressive fauna, but knowledge: scanning provides information about the habits and weaknesses of the creature, and from the data obtained, new crafting recipes and useful devices are born. It takes time to study, but getting into a vulnerable spot becomes noticeably easier. The differences between biomes are not limited to scenery. The cold awaits the heroine on the snowy plains; in underground caves it is impossible to breathe without a filter; in alien laboratories, mechanisms stand in the way. It is more profitable to lure someone into the water and shock them, to set someone on fire, and other creatures have to be avoided until better times. Weapons and first aid kits are assembled on a 3D printer from found materials, so saving resources becomes a separate task. Skills are divided into engineering and xenobiological, and the choice determines how the heroine will take over the next creature and how far she will go on an alien planet. The heroine’s equipment is also assembled in parts: a scanner, gloves and a protective suit are improved in separate modules. Rare finds include records of former inhabitants, which form the story of a vanished civilization. For everyone who loves survival fiction with battles, scanning and a constant shortage of ammunition.
