RTL Winter Sports 2009: The Next Challenge

RTL Winter Sports 2009: The Next Challenge is a collection of winter disciplines that doesn't try to tell a story, but offers a wide variety of competitions. Biathlon, alpine skiing, ski jumping, luge, figure skating, snowboarding and ice skating - each type is designed in its own way, and the transition between them does not let you get bored. The basis of the game is a tournament structure: the player chooses a country and goes through competitions, collecting medals for the overall standings. Additionally, individual disciplines are available for those who want to jump straight into their favorite sport, and short time trials. The weather and the quality of the track change the course, which is why the races turn out different. Control adapts to the discipline: in some places the rhythm is more important, in others the accuracy of the presses is more important, and in biathlon shooting is added to this, where trembling hands after skiing prevent you from hitting the target. It's details like these that make the collections so addictive. The presence of luge and figure skating is especially pleasing: these disciplines rarely make it into games, but here they are done carefully and with different control systems. The medal tables and overall standings give meaning to even lost attempts. For those who love the Olympic atmosphere, the collection is suitable. The game came out in an era when not everyone had official Olympic licenses, and therefore offered its own take on winter sports. For a family evening or a game in a group, this is a strong option: short attempts, clear rules and a constant change of activity.
