Star Traders: Frontiers is a role-playing game that takes you to the distant future. In the role of captain of an independent ship, the player explores the vast expanses of the Universe. Elements of turn-based strategy and sandbox with endless progression are also added here. The plot has almost no effect on the gameplay: people learned about the existence of other races and took their place among the leading states in thirty galaxies. Trade routes bring profit and risk. Contracts can be dangerous and generous. For the time being, peace was maintained, but now powerful factions are thinking about dividing up the territory and destroying weaker powers. The main character is obliged to bring peace or join one of the warring parties. Patrols keep order in the sectors. Boarding teams take other people's ships. Freedom of action is reinforced by a host of complex decisions, each of which has consequences. The reputation scale works for the captain: a high one gives discounts and more often brings help. Battles proceed step by step; you can fight with ships and landing troops during boarding. Officers receive promotions for their service. Hull repairs are carried out at the docks. The crew is selected wisely: each person has his own skills, abilities and role on board. Officers and heroes are upgraded and become more versatile, and the ship's combat and defensive modules are improved. The secondary tasks are well thought out: there are no missions in the spirit of “bring an artifact and get a reward” here. Fuel and repairs require expenses. For those who want to be the captain of a long-distance voyage, this game is suitable.
