Grind Session - skateboarding, where radical antics are valued less than a precise line. Here you need not just press buttons in the right order, but understand how the skateboard behaves on the edge, and find sequences of tricks that add up to a beautiful ride. There are six riders in the game, each with their own riding characteristics - from acceleration speed to landing stability. Accuracy is also important in small things: you didn’t take it too far on the ramp - you fell, you let go too late - the combination wasn’t counted. There is little forgiveness here, and this is important: the game is designed for those who like to practice techniques until they become automatic. The locations vary in character: there is a classic skate park, there are city streets with railings and steps. Tricks can be combined into long sequences, and this is what becomes the main task - not a single jump, but a continuous line across the entire area. It’s also worth noting that the game has competitions with judges’ scores: not only the complexity of the trick is important, but also how cleanly the sequence is completed. The levels are designed so that each has a few obvious lines, with the skilled player finding hidden passages between sections. Due to this, you can drive through the same park dozens of times and still find something new. There is a distinct difference between the levels: urban sites require one type of equipment, while abandoned objects with their structures require a completely different one. The project is not trying to please everyone and requires patience. But for those who at one time were looking not for effects in skateboard games, but for the process itself, the Grind Session gave exactly that - the feeling that every bone was earned by hand.
