War Mongrels

War Mongrels is a real-time tactics game about deserters who have to survive during the Second World War. The story is presented in an adult way, without embellishment or unnecessary pathos. The combat takes place with a pause, so positions, noise and visibility are more important than the speed of clicks. Stealth is encouraged: go quietly, remove a sentry, distract the patrol. In addition to battles, there are tasks with objects, boxes and traversal paths, as well as choices that influence who the heroes will turn out to be at the end. Some of the levels are spacious, and you can get there in several ways. The design is dark, the music adds heaviness, and the presentation is isometric. The levels are designed in such a way that noise and visibility have to be taken into account constantly, and it is better to hide the corpses of enemies. Part of the squad knows how to distract: throw a stone, cut a wire, cause a short circuit. Between missions there are short sketches that explain what is happening around. A mistake costs not only your life, but also reinforcements, of which there are few. Levels can be completed secretly, and then there are fewer losses and more reinforcements remain. Some missions require you not to shoot, but to deal with the situation and objects. Between tasks there are short scenes revealing the fate of the heroes. The difficulty is high, so replaying the episode happens often. Some levels can be completed without firing a single shot if you choose the right route. This saves people and ammunition. Before missions, sketches are shown that explain the situation around the heroes. Anyone who likes leisurely tactical war stories will find this game suitable.
