Virtua Tennis 2 continues the series of arcade tennis matches where timing is everything. Pressing at the right moment gives the force of the blow, early or late - an error, and who will take the game depends on this simple logic. Throwing the ball along a line or cutting diagonally is already a tactic. There are many courts, and the surface is noticeable: on clay the ball moves slower and bounces higher, on grass the serve becomes more dangerous. Doubles matches are especially valued: two on two, with backup and division of zones, transform the usual exchange of blows into real coordination. There is a mode where the player himself creates an athlete and leads him through tournaments, improving individual skills in training. There are also mini-games - for example, knocking down targets with precise shots or keeping the ball in play for as long as possible: they are useful as a warm-up and at the same time explain what is missing in the technique. Separately, it is worth noting that the career is divided into men's and women's tours - the second appeared just in this part and significantly expanded the list of athletes. In tournaments, not only technique is important, but also endurance: a long series of matches without rest affects the accuracy of strikes. Hence the love for short but regular training between competitions. Plus, mini-tasks develop not only your hand, but also your eye, and therefore are useful in real matches against strong opponents. The game does not strive for realism in form and animation, but remains one of the best arcade games about tennis: quick plays, short games and the pleasure of knowing that victory is entirely in your hands, and not in random percentages.
