RimWorld begins with a crash: several survivors find themselves on an alien planet, where they need to build a base and hold out. Around there are wastelands, wild animals and foreign tribes, and from the property - what survived the fall. Weather, climate and season also play a role in the plot: the dry season gives way to cold, and plans have to be changed. The settlers differ in their characters, skills and habits: one can heal, the second can build, the third can shoot, but each also has weaknesses such as a tendency to panic or greed. Their mood depends on living conditions, and poor health can end in a riot before an attack from the outside. The relationships between the colonists develop on their own: enmity, friendship and even weddings happen without the player’s participation. The game lives on events that the narrator comes up with: drought, raid, disease, meteorite or trade caravan appear at the most unfortunate moment. It is from these accidents that stories are formed, which you later remember not as a game episode, but as a real drama. Traders, mercenaries, and wanderers visit regularly, and with them come rumors about other settlements and their fate. Development leads through technology: from fires and huts to electricity, medicine and space research. There are so many mods written that it’s easy to remake the game in the Middle Ages, a space station, or anything else. Construction proceeds in cells, and rooms and furniture affect the mood of the residents, so the layout of the base is important. Anyone who likes to manage a small community and make difficult decisions will not get tired of such a colony for years.
