Kevin Garnett was on the cover, and on the court the game offered a much more serious approach to basketball than competitors of those years: realistic animations, body work, screens and defense that required reading the situation. Beyond matches in the league there is long-term club management: roster, trades, injuries, financial constraints and the development of young players. This mode turns the simulator into a manager, where it is important not only to get into the ring, but also to build a team capable of going through the entire season. Online meetings with live opponents, friendly matches and street basketball complete the picture. The graphics looked very decent for its year: the arenas, the lights, the crowd and the movements of the players created the feeling of a real match, and the commentators added to the atmosphere of the broadcast. The settings are also worth mentioning: the sliders allow you to adjust the accuracy of shots, the behavior of defense and the speed of the game, so the difficulty is easy to adjust to your needs. The association mode with draft and trades is convenient for monitoring the development of young players, and the tables and season history are maintained for years. This version was the first for PC, and in its time it quickly gathered a community around it. The NBA 2K9 is an important page in the history of the series: it opened the way to the PC and set standards that were then only honed. For those who appreciate the history of the genre, this is an interesting and quite playable copy to this day.
