MTV Celebrity Deathmatch

MTV Celebrity Deathmatch is a fighting game based on the famous show, where celebrities perform instead of fighters. Tommy Lee, Dennis Rodman, Carmen Electra and other stars arrange fights with each other in bright arenas, and everything that happens is presented in a cartoon style: blood flows in liters, severed parts come back, and commentators John Gomez and Nick Diamond do not stop talking for a second. Each character has his own techniques and signature moves, and the endings of battles look deliberately absurd. In addition to the main participants, hidden fighters like the mummy, werewolf and Frankenstein are available - their presence is fully consistent with the spirit of the show. The battles are short and fast, which is great for playing with a group of people on the same screen. In addition to single matches, there are tournament modes and the opportunity to fight with a friend. The humor is borderline in places, and this is a conscious part of the attraction: the game is not trying to be a serious sports simulator, its goal is to make you laugh and surprise. The controls are based on simple combinations, so combat is accessible to anyone, but learning to combine blows, blocks and grabs is not easy. Between rounds, replays and analysis of episodes are shown, and commentators make jokes about both participants. A separate mode allows you to arrange a tournament of several fighters and find out which of the celebrities is stronger. Over time, the graphics have deteriorated, but the MTV Celebrity Deathmatch still remains a curious artifact from an era when a television show could be adapted into a fighting game with its crazy mood intact.
