Description
Fight Night 2004 is a boxing simulator in which the Total Punch Control system first appeared: punches are set by stick movements, rather than by pressing buttons. Because of this, the usual rhythm of the game changes completely - each blow becomes a meaningful action, and not part of a combination. In fact, it was these mechanics that determined the further development of the series.
In the ring, everything is decided by distance, timing and ability to defend. A well-placed hook knocks down an opponent, while a careless blow leaves the fighter open. Stamina is used up quickly, so in the later rounds boxers move harder, and this affects every episode.
The career offers to guide the created fighter from the first amateur matches to the title: training, selection of opponents and work on skills. Between fights, you can improve your characteristics and choose your approach to the next fight, which adds depth to your career.
It’s also worth noting that the game has difficulty settings and modes for quick battles where you don’t need to go through a career. Training allows you to practice specific techniques before going up against a strong opponent. It's a rare concern for boxing to focus on gradual learning.
The roster is made up of real boxers, and the presentation itself looks like a real boxing evening with announcements and analysis of the episodes. The game was a significant step forward for its time, and even today the combat feels fair and demanding.
