Little Nightmares

Little Nightmares is a surreal labyrinth shrouded in fog, where the heroine must face primal fears inside a giant metal belly. The ship, called the Maw, is inhabited by twisted creatures. The ship is built like a multi-tiered factory: the lower decks are drowning in mud, and the upper decks are drowning in luxury, and the contrast between them is the basis of what is happening. The adults here look like monsters. Nine-year-old Six in a yellow raincoat is trying to get out of captivity, and the path lies through kitchens, holds and rooms where everything is not made to human size. You have to hide in drawers, under tables and in the shadows, because you can’t win a fight here. Six has almost no abilities: she can jump, cling and hold her breath, and everything else is decided by observation. Therefore, situations of persecution feel especially tense. Puzzles are based on observation: somewhere you need to light a match in time, somewhere to distract attention or crawl through a crack. Enemies behave according to their own rules, and getting to know them gradually reveals the structure of this world. The sequel expanded the universe with new heroes, and between the games comic books were released revealing details. Many scenes are built on anticipation rather than outright fear. The atmosphere is set by the sound and appearance of the creatures: there is almost no text here, but each scene speaks for itself. The expansion added a story about another child, and the sequel expanded the universe. Anyone who loves disturbing stories without words will remember this ship for a long time.
