Actions are spent, time passes, and almost every decision moves the matter towards success or disaster. Starting as an ordinary person, the player gradually establishes a cult, searches for books, deals with rituals and attracts followers. Some cards turn into new ones, some disappear forever, and timers force you to think quickly: procrastination results in hunger, illness, or attention from the authorities. There are no visual clues here: the rules are learned by experience, and the first death usually comes unexpectedly. But victory also feels like a personal discovery, and not like a completed instruction. Separately, it is worth noting that death here does not come from one blow, but from the accumulation of little things: not enough money - lost housing, did not listen to dreams - got sick, excitement in rituals - attracted the attention of those who are watching. Therefore, survival does not require speed, but discipline: keeping an eye on the timers and not leaving cards idle. Along the way, different paths of development open up, and one approach is not like the other. There are also add-ons that add new aspects and starting conditions. For those who like to figure things out without prompting, there is something to do here for dozens of hours. Separately, it is worth noting that the interface can be changed, and some of the hints are turned on at will, which makes the first hours easier. The game is dark, text-based and very demanding of attention. For those who like to figure out systems on their own, the Cultist Simulator provides a rare experience.
