Crusader Kings 2 is a global strategy about dynasties, not states. The player controls not a country, but a family, and his task is to ensure that the family survives centuries of intrigue, wars and random deaths. Doing business begins with little things: marriage, heir, relations with vassals. Every mistake in choosing a spouse or raising a son reverberates decades later. Wars here take place against the backdrop of personal grievances - an offended relative is capable of destroying a kingdom no worse than an enemy army. In addition to battles, conspiracies, titles, laws and religion are important. There are different starting eras and regions, as well as additions that significantly expand the rules of the game. Separately, it is worth mentioning about the inheritance system: an unsuccessful marriage or an ill-mannered heir turns into the collapse of a state faster than someone else’s army. In addition to wars, there are laws, councils and vassal obligations, and every change in the rules is felt over a long distance. Additions add entire regions and eras, so the games are not similar to each other. The community released modifications, some of which turned the game into almost a new project. The interface takes some getting used to: there are a lot of maps and tables, but then everything can be read at a glance. Heirs can be raised by themselves, choosing a mentor and training, and this is reflected in their character. Children inherit the characteristics of their parents, so a successful marriage improves not only the relationship, but also the characteristics of the next rulers. Titles are given to vassals, and greed is as dangerous as weakness. The project requires thoughtfulness and does not forgive negligence, but it gives stories that no screenwriter could come up with.
