Crisol: Theater of Idols

Crisol: Theater of Idols - Gabriel receives an assignment from the Sun God himself and sets off on a journey through Hispania - a country modeled after Spain, but with its own mythology. Instead of a solemn mission, cities full of rumors and dungeons where something old lives await him. The weather in Hispania changes quickly, and at night the streets become doubly dangerous. The town looks quiet, but there is a life of its own behind the doors, and it’s better not to meddle into it unnecessarily. The game is played from the first person, and this noticeably affects the fights: weapons are used close, and opponents are coming from all sides, so you have to keep your distance and watch the corners. A shotgun in the hands of a hero is capable of knocking out several creatures at once. Ammo and first aid kits are rare, so you have to inspect houses carefully. The world is built around local folklore: saints, witches, processions and rituals are described without irony, and monsters generated by devout faith are included in the same series. The atmosphere is strange, but whole. The opponents differ in appearance and habits: some go ahead, others wait in ambush. Sometimes you have to choose between your own salvation and the life of others, and the game does not sweeten this choice. In addition to shooting, there are riddles, recordings and meetings with characters who have their own views on what is happening. The player has to decide which side to take, and some of the endings depend on this. The theological debates in the local books are more important than they seem: some of them explain the nature of the local monsters. The chapter ends with a scene showing what the previous decisions led to, and it is not always a pleasant sight. For everyone who loves dark stories with religious overtones and doesn't mind unfamiliar folklore.
