Battlefield 2042 takes the action to the near future, where humanity has exhausted almost all of the Earth's resources. The superpowers locked in a race for the last reserves, Germany lost influence, the European Union collapsed, and the world plunged into a second great depression. Destruction and weather make the battlefield changeable, and the maps are suitable for both infantry skirmishes and large vehicle battles. There is no story campaign: single maps are played against bots, and the main bet is on network battles with one hundred and twenty-eight participants at the same time. Because of so many people, the maps grew noticeably larger, became more detailed, and became more susceptible to destruction. There are seven locations, including Antarctica, Qatar, South Korea, India, Singapore, Guiana and Egypt.
