Description
The Bode Miller Alpine Skiing puts the player on skis rather than on a snowboard, and immediately announces that they are serious about the matter: behind them is an Olympic athlete whose name is in the title. The task is not about tricks, but about seconds: a clean line of descent, precise turns and the right choice of moment for acceleration.
The slopes differ in steepness and shelter: on some it is better to go along a short arc, on others it is better to cut it or, conversely, to stay higher. A skier can develop great speed, but on a broken section this ends in a fall, and in races where time is measured in hundredths, it throws him far back.
There are different disciplines and modes - from a single descent to a series of competitions with accumulation of results. The settings allow you to choose the difficulty and level of assistance, which is important for a beginner: it’s not difficult to understand the principle of movement here, but it’s not easy to stop falling right away.
Separately, it is worth noting that the set includes several disciplines: downhill, slalom and other types that require different skills. Progress is saved in the form of points and opening competitions, so the game has a motivation other than the desire to simply slide beautifully. For a beginner, there are hints and simplified controls; for an experienced user, settings are provided without any help.
Externally, the game looks like a middle peasant of its time. But the feeling of the slope is conveyed well: to improve the time, you have to think about the trajectory, and not just about the acceleration button - and this makes the project similar to sports simulators, and not to arcades.
