Beautiful Mystic Defenders combines visual novel and tower defense: events are presented through dialogues and illustrations, and between scenes the player defends positions from waves of enemies. Both parts are equal, and skipping one for the other will not work. The world map is divided into regions with their own mood: gloomy forest, molten gates, eternal winter, ice citadel. At each level, you need to place defenders so that the flow of enemies breaks up against the barrier, and does not break through to the goal. Over time, new types of towers appear, and the result depends on their combination. There is also the development of heroines: for victories, resources are awarded, which are invested in enhancements and new abilities. This adds an element of planning to the tactics - sometimes it is more profitable to invest in an already proven scheme than in a fresh idea. It’s also worth noting that the waves of enemies go from simple to complex, and between them there is time to improve your defense and understand the dialogues. On the world map, regions open up gradually, and each brings new opponents and new defenders. For victories, resources are awarded, some of which are spent on permanent improvements, and some on story scenes. It is also worth noting that the campaign map is gradually growing, and with it the conditions are becoming more complicated: at later levels you have to think about the combination of towers in advance, otherwise the barrier will not hold up. Some of the content is intended for adults, and this should be taken into account in advance. For fans of the genre, this hybrid is convenient: between intense waves there is a respite in the form of a story, and the plot, in turn, does not separate you from the mechanics for long.
