Assassin's Creed Shadows takes the series to feudal Japan and offers two heroes with different approaches for the first time. Naoe is a shinobi from Iga Province trained in stealth and climbing, Yasuke is a samurai who fights in open combat with heavy weapons. Switching between them changes not only the style of play, but also the way the plot is perceived: each has its own connections, its own revenge and its own allies. The world is made up of seasons, and this affects everything: in the spring the roads are washed out, in the summer the vegetation is denser and hides the hero, in the fall the color changes, and in the winter the water freezes, opening up new paths. The change of seasons affects both the gameplay and the visual atmosphere, which is why the same area has to be explored anew. In addition to the plot, there is the construction of your own shelter, reconnaissance and a system of allies who can be involved in tasks. Weather and lighting work for stealth: thunderstorms and rain muffle footsteps, and shadows give an advantage when passing secretly. The combat system is divided into two styles - Naoe has fast tools like the kusarigama and projectiles, while Yasuke has heavy techniques. Separately, it is worth noting that the game has a reconnaissance and allies system: useful people can be involved in tasks, and information makes planning easier. The world is big, but exploration is rewarded: clearing areas opens up new opportunities. For the series, this is an update to the formula, not just a new map. It's a notable expansion of the formula for the series: Japan, hero pairings, and seasonal dynamics allow for more freedom in how to approach missions.
