Quake 3 Arena tells the story of how the ancient race Vadrigar once built the Eternal Arena - a sacred gladiatorial platform for the amusement of their people, who demanded bread and circuses, so only the strongest warriors went into battle. In essence, this is a classic first-person shooter: without a role-playing system and side mechanics, exceptionally dynamic and brutal action. The choice of weapons is huge: a machine gun, a double-barreled shotgun, a grenade launcher, a rocket launcher and such exclusive barrels as the Lightning Gun, PlazmaGun, RailGun and BFG10K. The passage is divided into circles from Tier 0 to Tier 7: you grind all the opponents in the current location - move on until you fight the champion of gladiator fights, Ziro. The single-player campaign consists of battles with bots on 4 maps of 7 links each, and medals are awarded for accurate actions - headshots and kill chains. Multiplayer offers several modes: Free For All - classic deathmatch, where every fighter is for himself; Team Deathmatch - team battles; Tournament - one-on-one matches with elimination; Capture The Flag - delivery of the enemy banner to your base. Armor is represented by one type and differs only in the supply of protective points, and boosts are scattered throughout the locations: temporary immortality, invisibility, teleport and the “predator effect” for quick reprisals against enemies. PunkBuster anti-cheat is built into the network code. For playing alone, there is the Skirmish mode, which emulates multiplayer matches: all maps and network modes are available, but instead of live players, bots play against you.
