Phoenix Point is a turn-based tactical strategy, the events of which begin with the discovery of a threat associated with mutations. The player commands a squad and at the same time manages his own project to save humanity. In addition to battles, there is a base, research and diplomacy: several factions look at what is happening differently, and cooperation provides their own technologies. Ballistics are calculated in detail, so the shot requires planning the line of fire. Opponents are mutating, which means that the usual tactics no longer work. Separately, it is worth mentioning about ballistics: the line of fire needs to be planned, and a shot through cover is not always possible, so position is more important than speed. In addition to battles, there is a base, science and diplomacy, and the factions look at everything differently. Opponents mutate, and familiar tactics no longer work. The decor is strict, the music is disturbing. The game requires attention and does not forgive carelessness, but it rewards planning and understanding the mechanics, not luck. Missions have different conditions, so the same tactics do not work in every battle. Research unlocks technologies, and they affect not only combat, but also equipment. The conditions in the tasks are different, so one tactic does not always work. Technologies from research affect both combat and the squad’s equipment. The base develops in different directions, and the choice of buildings determines which units will have to fight. Neighbors in the region also act on their own, so the map changes without the player’s participation. Attention is required here constantly, but planning is rewarded. For those who love tactical battles with calculations, the project gives a lot to think about.
