garage:VAMP is a visual novel about a married couple whose lives are invaded by something dangerous. A newlywed couple encounters a creature that won't leave them alone, and the story revolves around how the characters respond to this threat. The format is an interactive novel for an adult audience: text, illustrations and choices that influence the course of events. There are several forks, so decisions have weight, and do not just change a couple of replicas. Some scenes are intended exclusively for adults, and the developers explicitly warn about this. The atmosphere builds up gradually: first, everyday details, then warning signs, then direct confrontation. Between chapters it is possible to save, which is important in branching novels, because you almost always want to go back and try another option. It is also worth noting that the story is divided into chapters and takes place in several locations: an apartment, a street, a garage, where the key clash takes place. Decisions in dialogues have a delayed effect - what seems like a small thing in one scene reverberates in the next. For projects of this scale, this is a pretty neat job of branching and decoupling. There is also a journal with entries that helps you keep track of events if you return to the game after a while, as well as a gallery of open illustrations. The project is niche and made by a small team: the graphics are static, the sound is minimal. But for fans of the genre, the garage:VAMP offers a complete story with tension and several options for development.
