EA Sports MMA

EA Sports MMA is an attempt to make a mixed martial arts simulator with an emphasis on authenticity. The roster included fighters from different schools and promotions, including Japanese organizations and American leagues, which was rare for that time: the player was shown not only the usual octagon, but also another world of MMA with a ring and its own rules. A separate find is creating a character from a photograph: you can upload a face and get a recognizable fighter with your own set of characteristics. In addition to appearance, skills, style and signature moves are customized, so everyone takes their own path to the title. Fights are based on distance and tactics: striking, clinch, grappling and ground fighting require different approaches, and stamina is spent quickly if you act without a plan. The fighter's career takes him through several organizations, including Japan, where the rules and atmosphere are different from what they are used to. Separately, it is worth noting the variety of arenas and rules: in different countries, the battle takes place according to its own canons, and therefore tactics have to be changed. The training mode helps you learn individual techniques, and match analysis shows you where exactly the position was lost. For the MMA genre, this was a significant attempt to show the sport as a whole, and not just its spectacular part. The presentation of matches, announcements and analysis of episodes are made in the spirit of television broadcasts. The EA Sports MMA did not become the most famous representative of the genre, but it is still appreciated for its authenticity and attention to detail.
