Dark Summit

Dark Summit is a snowboard with a story, which is rare for the genre. The player plays as an experienced athlete who, together with a group of rebels, is trying to figure out who really controls the mountain. Instead of an abstract set of runs, there is a place where each descent has its own reason. The mountain is divided into sections, and some of them are patrolled: riding where you are not allowed means taking risks and escaping from pursuit. Tasks are given as you go, and in order to get to the next one, you have to not just go down, but fulfill specific requirements - collect objects, accelerate to the required speed, go through a section without falling. Skating technique remains the basis: tricks, turns, acceleration on the slope. But the motivation is different: not “break a record,” but “advance through history.” The weather and time of day change the situation, and along the way you encounter rivals from among those who are not happy with strangers. Separately, it is worth noting that tasks are issued as you progress and gradually become more difficult: from a simple descent to trying to survive in places where access is closed and where you are being watched. The time of day affects the visibility and behavior of patrols. There are also equipment upgrades that help you cope with more difficult sections of the mountain. The presentation of the material is especially memorable: the heroine communicates with the rebels and receives tasks from people who have their own goals and reasons for hiding on the mountain. The project was not a hit, and its technique is conditional. But the attempt to combine snowboarding with adventure turned out to be interesting, and this is what Dark Summit still differs from dozens of similar arcade games.
