Counter-Strike: Source appeared as an updated version 1.6 on a new engine and at the same time as a rival to its own predecessor. Players found both advantages and reasons for controversy in it. The transition to a new engine changed the sound of steps, hits and the way physics worked, which affected the feel of the battle. Many players are still arguing which version is fairer: the old one or the updated one. The main change concerned the weapons: the spread of bullets became different, and the usual shooting patterns stopped working, which is why we had to adapt again. Ballistics and technology remained the same, but the sound, models and object physics were noticeably fresher. The maps were reworked: some of the covers and corners were moved, which is why old tactics had to be revised. The appearance took a step forward: the maps were redrawn, shadows were added, and bodies fell more naturally. Bots, Steam achievements and statistics appeared, which was not the case in previous versions. Guns and grenades cost money, so frugality and team buying became part of the round. Smoke grenades and flash drives have returned almost unchanged and still decide the outcome of the assault. The game remained popular for years: servers with dozens of modes, pubs and training maps lived their own lives. Many came here after the classics and stayed for a long time, getting used to the new impact. Servers with bots were useful for beginners, and experienced players quickly switched to live matches. Some stayed on servers with classic maps, while others moved to arenas where shields are prohibited. Updates and balance tweaks have been coming out for years, and the final version is noticeably different from the first builds. For anyone who appreciates old school tactical shooters, this release is reminiscent of an entire era.
