This variety of goals makes the process less monotonous. The controls take some getting used to, and the physics are strict: falling over a corner is common, especially when you're trying to save time by taking risks. But the completed descent feels like a personal achievement, and not just another tick on a list of progress. It is also worth noting that the game has a championship with a series of tests, where the result of each stage affects the final place. Professionals differ not only in speed, but also in the range of available tricks, so the choice of an athlete is already a tactical decision. There are also free rides: you can ride without a goal, just to practice a turn or find a shortcut to the finish. There is also a table with achievements, which marks clean descents and successful series of tricks in a row. Externally, the game is outdated, the sound is minimalist. But the Cool Boarders 4 remains a reminder that an arcade sports game can be built on honest controls—without flashy effects or complex systems.
