Total War Saga: THRONES OF BRITANNIA takes the series to the British Isles during the era of the struggle between the Celtic and Anglo-Saxon kingdoms. The timing is difficult: Scandinavian troops have already landed, and local rulers are forced to decide whether to negotiate with the aliens or fight. The game gives you a choice of different factions and offers its own logic for each. The main difference from larger parts of Total War is the scale and detail of the island map: there are fewer territories, but each province matters a lot. The management of settlements takes into account local characteristics, and supplies and troop movements are tied to the terrain, which is why routes have to be planned in advance. The battles are familiar to fans of the series: infantry, archers, cavalry, sieges, but due to the peculiarities of the era, the emphasis is on foot formations and holding the line. Morale and the accumulation of fatigue in battle decide the outcome more often than individual maneuvers. It is also worth noting that the game has historical characters and events on which the plot is based, as well as its own uprisings and civil strife. Managing vassals requires attention: too harsh a policy leads to revolts. For those who love the Total War for its atmosphere, this is a suitable short campaign. The game is more compact than the large campaigns in the series, and this is rather a plus: a long run in it can be completed in tens of hours, and not in hundreds. For those interested in early medieval history, this is an interesting look at the birth of England.
