Lay of the Land

Lay of the Land is a fantasy adventure where every element of the world is subject to the laws of physics. The fire spreads to vegetation, sand crumbles underfoot, and flows of water change the landscape. Fire spreads through grass and bushes, so a simple spark can burn an entire clearing. The wind carries the flame further, and this has to be taken into account in battle. Accumulations of gas can suffocate an unwary traveler, so you have to move with caution. Such rules also apply to opponents: the enemy can be lured into the fireplace or cut off with water. Water flows along the slopes and changes channels, and the sand crumbles under the weight. Gas accumulations accumulate in low-lying areas and can burst into flames upon impact. The role-playing part is based on the development of the hero and the choice of skills to suit your own playing style. Exploration is rewarded with finds, and the world map is gradually revealed. Leveling up is related to experience: skills are unlocked through practice and tasks. Companions can take advantage of their surroundings if given the right order. Experience is awarded for exploration and battles. The environment changes depending on the time of day, and the weather adds to the complexity. The project is in development, and the authors are sharing demonstrations of the mechanics. Weather and time of day affect the behavior of animals and opponents.
