Katawa Shoujo

Katawa Shoujo is a visual novel about a guy and five girls. Each heroine lives with physical or mental trauma. The title translates as “Girls with Disabilities.” The boarding school routine sets the rhythm: lessons, club activities and evening walks. The ending sums up the relationship that has already developed. The story goes on for several years and ends with the hero growing up. The story is told through the text and the choice of lines. The character sprites change against the backdrop of a boarding school, where teenagers with different characteristics study. Each girl is revealed in a separate line. Each decision leads to one of the lines, and no clues about the consequences are given. Five lines diverge after the first weeks of boarding school. Replies can be humorous or serious, and this affects relationships. The hero ends up there after an illness and at first stays away. Conversations, walks and school activities gradually bring him closer to his classmates. The answers you choose determine whose story will continue. Supporting characters are revealed in conversations between chapters. Each heroine does her own thing: painting, sports, music. The text takes a long time to read, but the immersion is deep. The tone of the story is calm and attentive to detail. Heavy topics are presented without pressure, and each line has its own ending. The music changes from theme to theme and maintains the mood of the scene. Conversations make it clear what a person is silent about. Anyone who likes leisurely stories about people will find this game suitable.
