FTL: Faster Than Light

FTL: Faster Than Light is a 2D spaceship simulator made by Subset Games studio and published in 2012. The player controls a crew that is escaping pursuit and carrying important data. The reactor and subsystems require calculation: excess energy in the shields will leave the weapon without a charge at the most necessary moment. It is better to plan the jump between the lighthouses with a supply of fuel, otherwise the fleet will catch up. A ship consists of compartments: a reactor, shields, weapons, engines and systems, all of which require energy distribution. The same power supply has to be divided between subsystems, and the outcome of the battle depends on this. Weapons can be laser, rocket, or completely unusual, and some of the weapons are purchased from merchants. The crew lives its own life: people put out fires, patch holes, treat wounds and fight on board. Some problems can be solved by talking if there is the right specialist in the compartment. Along the way you come across random events: chases, traders, stations and abandoned ships with crew. Rewards for victories open up new schemes and starting conditions. Transitions between beacons are generated randomly, and opponents do not wait. The rebel flagship awaits at the end, and few make it to it on the first try. Different ships are unlocked by fulfilling conditions, and each has its own layout of compartments. For those who are ready to count energy and sacrifice compartments, this ship is suitable. Modifications allow you to add races, weapons and entire campaigns, and the difficulty is adjusted separately. Some modifications turn the game into a strategy about large fleets.
