Colin McRae Rally Remastered brings back the 1998 rally simulator with the addition of content from the second part and updated graphics. There are no short races in a circle here: this is a rally in its purest form, where the track consists of several sections, and you compete not with the cars next to you, but with the time shown by other crews. Particular attention is paid to damage: the external part of the car, the chassis, and the gearbox suffer. After a hard landing, the car can be difficult to handle, and repairs between special stages are limited, so you have to choose what to fix first. Different surfaces - gravel, asphalt, dirt - radically change grip, and the same track feels different at different stages. Among the sections there are high jumps, blind turns, long straights and tight forest corridors where a mistake costs seconds. In addition to the championship, there is a rally school, which allows you to understand the basics of working with the steering wheel and gas, and quick races for those who want to get behind the wheel right away. The work of the navigator is especially pleasing: the turns are read by voice, and gradually you begin to drive not from memory, but from the prompts, which makes a big difference on unfamiliar roads. Cars from the late nineties behave differently: some handle gravel better, others stronger on asphalt, so the settings and style of the driver have to be adjusted to the vehicle. For such a rally, endurance is more important than reaction speed. The remaster was made primarily for mobile devices, so the picture remained modest, but the controls and driving sensations did not go away. For fans of classic rallying, this is a pleasant opportunity to return to the roots of the series.
